BBC Bitesize
Brief
Bitesize is an E-learning institution having guided tens of thousands of young students through their GCSE’s. The website required a radical overhaul as it had outgrown its original structure, looked dated, and presented its content poorly. The BBC also required detailed digital guidelines to assist future editorial teams.
Solution
The brief required really getting under the skin of the target audience, and through a series of workshops, we investigated how teenagers used online revision materials, and how best to retain their concentration.
The results of these studies manifested themselves in the fine detail of the information layout- optimum line spacing, margin widths, text and image sizes and background colours.
The carefully considered information design was complimented by a bold and fresh brand look and feel, including a bank of custom shot supporting imagery.
Over 100 ‘building blocks’ (content modules) were created. These were documented in a supporting brand guidelines produced for future in house editorial teams.
